Origin of CVD risk score
This cardiovascular (CVD) risk score has been adapted from Coronary Risk Chart which was originally proposed by the European Medical Societies in 1998. After modification, by adapting prediabetes risk equals to diabetes mellitus, it has been validated and found quite reliable for prediction CVD events in the 10 yrs cohort study of the asymptomatic Thai (Air Force) officers. A set of risk factors i.e. gender, age, systolic blood pressure, blood sugar, lipid profiles, history of smoking and family history of premature atherosclerosis (before 55 yrs in men, 65 yrs in women), sudden cardiac death, and elevated lipid in family members are formulated to predict the chance of having heart attack or stroke within the next decade. The results have been published in medical literature; Asian Heart Journal 2012; 120:1-11 and Bangkok Med J 2017;13:1-12, under modified coronary risk chart (mCRC). Formerly, it was posted in www.thaiafheart.com which was no longer used. It is now rewritten and supported by Cardiac Arrest Prevention Research and Education Foundation (CAPRE) and is available at http://caprecvdrisk.com at no charge. The main purpose is to provide self-risk estimation for Thais and offer them a chance to reduce those events. In future, CVD risk score will be continuously improved for better served. This phone application is voluntarily work by IMD (an Imagine Group of Companies www.imagine.co.th) as a social contribution.
